More than likely, you are going to find Christmas lights in almost any neighbourhood but sometimes, things seem to escalate quickly. When one person puts up lights and someone across the street puts up better lights it may just start a friendly competition among neighbours. At times, it may stop after a few years but in some cases, they just keep adding more and more lights every year. Sooner or later, however, someone needs to come out on top.
This family in Australia is not only in a friendly competition, they are in a worldwide competition and they are winning. In fact, they have set a Guinness World Record by stringing up 502,165 Christmas lights on their residential property. As it turns out, this isn’t their first record. They first set the world record in 2001 but ended up being bested by a family in the United States. This year they reclaimed their prize.
Not only did they claim the record, they did it in style. They beat the other record by over 168,000 lights for a definitive win. Wait until you see it, it is amazing.
